August 2019 Review

I know it's not quite the end of the month, but the next few days are going to be crazy busy (I'll write about it in a separate post!) so I thought I would go ahead and post this month's review!

This month I...

-Went to lots of estate sales

I got this beauty and several other bones/oddities at a few different estate sales. This is Jolene (as dubbed by Matt) and now I need to go shopping for more wigs and little hats for her. I'm currently waiting on giant fake eyelashes for her too.

- Got to Hang out with these kiddos

I got to spend some one-on-one time with some of my nieces and nephews! We watched a movie, went swimming, and played at the park. Good times!

-Watched the second season of Mindhunter

Not everyone's cuppa tea, but if you have an interest in psychology or true crime, Mindhunter delivers.

-Finished up some things for the Oddities and Curiosities Expo

I finally got back into drawing a little and have felt more inspired to create than I have in a long time, it's such a good feeling.

-Went to Branson and Silver Dollar City with Matthew

And of course we had to visit Marvel Cave, one of my favorite things to do in Branson!

-Aaaaaand we got engaged!

We had been discussing marriage for quite some time and I knew it wouldn't be long, but he still  managed to surprise me. He was even a good sport and was willing to take pictures with me while I endlessly fiddled with settings and framing things just how I liked it. Trust me, there are so many goofy and out of focus shots that may never see the light of day, but I'm thankful to have them.

His original plan was to propose in Marvel Cave, but was thwarted by the rain. And thunder. And lightning. It was shaping up to be a rough day, our tempers short, disappointment already setting in because we weren't sure if we would be able to go to Silver Dollar City any time over the weekend since rain was forecast to last most of our trip. But Matthew was determined to have a good birthday. (Oh, did I not mention it was his birthday? He kept saying this was the best birthday gift that he could get. Such a sweetie!)

I'm looking forward to the the life we get to share together.

August, you've been lovely.

Yellowstone Trip May 2019 - Part 1

Day 1 & 2 Yellowstone. Probably the most diverse scenery I've seen in the span of 2 weeks. I had planned on going to Yellowstone in 2018 with Samantha, on the way back from California, but ended up coming straight home from San Francisco. So, of course, I started planning for a trip specifically to see Yellowstone. I threw out the suggestion to my family that we should all go, and most of them agreed! Having 9 of us go introduced some difficulties but ultimately we got it all worked out and started planning what all we wanted to see along the way. The first day was just driving, we headed to Sioux Falls, SD. Day 2 was jam packed full of sights! The first stop being the Corn Palace. About half of us had been there before, but it never ceases to a-maize! (See what I did there? Eh? No? Too corny? Ahem...moving on.) Next was a ghost town in Okaton. Abandoned places isn't everybody's thing, I know, but since it was right off the highway, we stopped and...

California Adventure 2018 - Part 2

Day 3 - Las Vegas Waking up in Utah was a bit chilly in the car but we soon would be missing the cool as we continued the two hour drive on to Las Vegas, where it was pretty toasty. Driving down I-15 was beautiful and scenic before we arrived in Nevada. No pictures were taken of the drive because it was pretty early and weren't quite ready to be snapping any photos. Even though we were pretty much just passing through, we had about a half day to spend in Vegas. Samantha had said early on that the one place she wanted to see was Las Vegas, see the sights and drive the strip. The night before she even had CSI playing on her laptop as we drove through the very dark desert on our way to our camping spot in St. George, Utah. The first place she decided she wanted to go was the stratosphere, the tallest freestanding tower overlooking the downtown area. On top of the tower there were also rides that dangled you over the building. Since we had gotten there just as it opened, we p...
