California Adventure 2018 - Part 5

Day 6

One place I was super stoked to go to was the M*A*S*H filming site in Malibu Creek State Park. Neither Samantha or I are exactly in shape and hiking isn't something we do often. But I convinced her to go, begrudgingly so.
It was about 10 miles round trip. Fortunately there was only a few places of steep inclines and it was paved for a good while, but about a 1/3 of the walk was very uneven ground with roots and rocks impeding our progress a bit.

We went out early to get a jump on it, not knowing exactly how long it may take us. It was very pretty scenery and we only saw a handful of people the entire time we were there.

We saw several lizards that skittered away and scared us every. Single. Time.

Our first view of the filming site!

This vehicle isn't originally from the show but most of the others were.

It was so neat to be able to see where everything used to be and to actually sit and picnic where the mess hall was!

Even though Samantha isn't a fan of the show, she was a good sport.

After we got back to the car, we were starving so we made a bee-line for the nearest local restaurant and ate some delicious pizza. After that, we had a bit of time to rest before going to the Observatory that evening. We made a quick detour though to get a doughnut though, and visit the Time Travel Mart in Echo Park.

As we entered the parking area for the Griffith Observatory, we noted that the upper parking lot was full, on a whim, we went up in the hopes of finding one. We were very fortunate to find one and realized it was quite a trek from the bottom to the observatory. We may have not gone if we hadn't found that spot because of our pretty strenuous hike earlier in the day.

Walking up I kept squealing with joy and pointing out various spots where James Dean had filmed Rebel without a Cause and scenes from La La Land.

The Tesla Coil was at the top of my list for things I wanted to see in action, it didn't disappoint.

A truly lovely day seeing places in person from films and shows I enjoy so much.

October 2019 Review

You guys! This month went by so quick! And since we got snow at the end of the month, it felt more like winter than fall. October, while busy, was a little more sedate, settling into work rhythms and taking some down time. This month I... -Turned 30 I celebrated with a little get together with friends indulging in pizza, apple pie, and games, I believe a pretty good time was had by all. I hope this year will be one of the best yet, I have lots planned and hope I don't let it overwhelm me, it's all about balance and growth.  - Settled into a new church home Matt and I have been visiting a new church for several months now and we both feel like we're very welcomed and are excited to be part of this new community and beginnings of new friendships. - Hit up some amazing estate sales Seriously, it's one of our new favorite pastimes. We went to a sale in Atchison, MO, in a house built in the 1890's. We both fell in love with the house! So much charac...

Yellowstone Trip May 2019 - Part 1

Day 1 & 2 Yellowstone. Probably the most diverse scenery I've seen in the span of 2 weeks. I had planned on going to Yellowstone in 2018 with Samantha, on the way back from California, but ended up coming straight home from San Francisco. So, of course, I started planning for a trip specifically to see Yellowstone. I threw out the suggestion to my family that we should all go, and most of them agreed! Having 9 of us go introduced some difficulties but ultimately we got it all worked out and started planning what all we wanted to see along the way. The first day was just driving, we headed to Sioux Falls, SD. Day 2 was jam packed full of sights! The first stop being the Corn Palace. About half of us had been there before, but it never ceases to a-maize! (See what I did there? Eh? No? Too corny? Ahem...moving on.) Next was a ghost town in Okaton. Abandoned places isn't everybody's thing, I know, but since it was right off the highway, we stopped and...

January Review 2020

This month I... - Was a bridesmaid in my friend Becca's wedding! I'm honored to have been present for the start of their new life together. -Have been gearing up for another Oddities show in Tulsa. It's next month, so I'll be posting about it more at the end of February. But here's a couple things I've been working on! -Got a new friend for the collection. Meet Rufus, the derpy bobcat. Matt and I drove an hour to get him and he now sits proudly on the piano until we can potentially find a more suitable place. Matt pets him and tells him he's pretty. Apart from lots of work and lots of lazy days when we can get them, this month has flown by with not a lot of fanfare. I think we've recovered from the holidays and have begun preparations for the coming months. Between making lots of new bug things and wedding planning, I keep my mind busy.
